Hostel Overview
KIIT has 24+ hostels spread across its campuses, housing over 15,000 students. Hostels are separated by gender, and first-year students are mandatorily allotted hostel accommodation. The hostels are well-maintained with 24/7 security, CCTV surveillance, and resident wardens.
Each hostel block has common rooms, study halls, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and a mess (dining hall). Some newer hostels have attached balconies, elevators, and modern amenities.
Good to know
Hostel allotment for freshers is automatic — you don't need to apply separately. Your room type preference is collected during admission.
Room Types & Amenities
KIIT offers several room configurations:
| Type | Occupancy | Amenities |
|---|---|---|
| Triple (Non-AC) | 3 students | Beds, table, chairs, cupboard, fan, common bathroom |
| Double (Non-AC) | 2 students | Same as above, more space, sometimes attached bathroom |
| Double (AC) | 2 students | AC, attached bathroom, geyser, larger room |
| Single (AC) | 1 student | Full privacy, AC, attached bathroom, study desk |
Pro tip
Double non-AC is the most popular choice among freshers — good balance of space, social life, and cost. AC rooms are worth it if you're not used to Bhubaneswar's summer heat (April–June hits 42°C+).
What to Bring
Essentials (must-have)
- Bedsheet, pillow, thin blanket (mattress is provided)

- Clothes hangers and a drying rack
- Lock and key for cupboard
- Extension board / power strip (3-4 sockets)
- Laptop and charger
- Water bottle and small electric kettle
- Basic medicines (paracetamol, band-aids, antacid)
Nice to have

- Slippers and flip-flops (for hostel corridors)
- Laundry bag and detergent
- Snacks and instant noodles (for late-night hunger)
Important
Do NOT bring: cooking appliances (induction, hot plate), alcohol, speakers with excessive volume, or pets. These are strictly prohibited and can lead to hostel fines.
Mess & Food
Each hostel block has an attached mess. Typical meal timings:
| Meal | Timing |
|---|---|
| Breakfast | 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM |
| Lunch | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM |
| Snacks | 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM |
| Dinner | 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM |
Food quality is decent and varies by hostel block. Veg and non-veg options are available. The menu rotates weekly. Most students supplement mess food with occasional orders from campus food courts.
Pro tip
Download food delivery apps (Swiggy, Zomato) — they deliver to hostel gates. Useful for late-night cravings or when mess food doesn't appeal.
Wi-Fi & Connectivity
KIIT provides campus-wide Wi-Fi in all hostels and academic buildings. To connect:
- Connect to the "KIIT" network on your device
- Open a browser — you'll be redirected to a login page
- Enter your KIIT credentials (roll number + password from ERP)
- You're connected (session lasts ~12 hours, then re-login)
Speed is generally 10-20 Mbps shared. For heavy downloads or streaming, consider getting a personal mobile data plan (Jio/Airtel 4G work well on campus).

Rules & Timings
Key hostel rules to be aware of:
- In-time: 9:00 PM for first-year students (relaxed to 10 PM from 2nd year)
- Visitor hours: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (visitors must register at gate)
- Noise after 10 PM: Quiet hours enforced; playing music on speakers is not allowed
- Overnight outing: Requires written permission from warden + parent's call
- Attendance: Random hostel attendance checks happen; habitual absence leads to fines
- Room inspection: Monthly inspection for cleanliness and prohibited items
Important
Ragging is strictly prohibited and carries severe penalties (expulsion + FIR). KIIT has zero tolerance. If you face any issue, report immediately to the warden or Anti-Ragging Helpline.
Laundry & Housekeeping
- Laundry service: Most hostels have a paid laundry service (INR 500-800/month for unlimited washes)
- Self-service: Washing machines available in some hostels (coin-operated or free)
- Room cleaning: Common areas cleaned daily by staff; rooms are your responsibility
- Waste disposal: Dustbins on each floor; segregation (wet/dry) expected
Pro tip
Subscribe to the hostel laundry service in your first month — it saves hours every week. Hand-washing clothes in Bhubaneswar's humidity is miserable.
Tips from Seniors
- Bond with your roommate early — you'll spend a year together; mutual respect goes a long way
- Keep a small first-aid kit — the medical center is far; having basics saves midnight trips
- Invest in a good mattress topper — hostel mattresses are thin; a topper makes sleeping much better
- Label your belongings — chargers, bottles, and clothes look alike; mark them
- Make friends across floors — your future project partners, gym buddies, and study groups come from hostel
- Respect quiet hours — night-before-exam peace is sacred; be the roommate you'd want
- Explore the mess first week — identify which days have food you like; plan outside meals for other days
