KIIT Clubs & Societies — How to Join and Thrive

KIIT Student Activity Centre (KSAC) is the umbrella body managing 50+ clubs and societies across technical, cultural, sports, and social welfare domains. Being part of a club is one of the best ways to make friends, build skills, and create memories during college.

Club recruitment typically happens in August-September (for freshers) through auditions, interviews, or open registrations depending on the club type.

These clubs focus on building technical skills beyond the classroom:

• Robotics Society: Build robots, participate in competitions (Robocon, Techfest)
• Coding Club: Competitive programming, hackathons, DSA workshops
• AI/ML Club: Machine learning projects, Kaggle competitions, research papers
• Web Development Club: Build websites, open-source contributions, MERN/Next.js projects
• Cyber Security Club: CTF competitions, ethical hacking workshops
• IoT & Embedded Systems: Arduino, Raspberry Pi projects, smart devices
• Aero Club: Drone building, aeromodelling, SAE competitions
• Motorsports Club: Build formula-style cars for FSAE competitions
• Open Source Club: Contribute to open-source projects, GSoC preparation

• Kalakaar (Dramatics): Theater, street plays, nukkad natak, mono-acting
• Music Society: Band performances, solo singing, instrumental (Indian classical + Western)
• Dance Society: Contemporary, hip-hop, classical, folk — perform at fests
• Art & Photography: Digital art, photography exhibitions, short films
• Literary Society: Debates, poetry, creative writing, MUNs
• Film Making Club: Short films, documentaries, campus reels
• Fashion Society: Fashion shows, styling events, design workshops
• Quiz Club: Inter-college quizzes, trivia events

KIIT has competitive sports teams that participate in inter-university tournaments:

• Cricket Team: Selection trials in August, inter-university tournaments
• Football Team: Active league within campus + external competitions
• Basketball: Indoor court access, regular matches
• Athletics: Track & field, annual sports meet
• Swimming: Competitive team, access to Olympic-size pool
• Badminton & Table Tennis: Most popular recreational sports on campus
• Rugby: KIIT has one of the strongest university rugby teams in India
• Chess Club: Online and offline tournaments

1. Club Fair (Week 2-3): All clubs set up stalls during orientation week. Visit, ask questions, collect info
2. Registration/Audition: Most clubs have a Google Form registration followed by an audition or interview
3. Selection Process: Varies by club — coding clubs may have a test, dramatics has auditions, sports have trials
4. Induction: Selected members attend an induction session and start regular meetings

Membership Fees

Most clubs charge a nominal annual fee: INR 100-500 for general clubs. Technical clubs with hardware (robotics, motorsports) may charge INR 500-2,000 to cover components and materials.

• Alma Fiesta: Annual cultural fest — 3 days of performances, competitions, celebrity nights
• Kritarth: Technical fest — hackathons, robotics competitions, coding contests, workshops
• Annual Sports Meet: Track & field, team sports, inter-school competitions
• TEDx KIIT: Annual TEDx event with notable speakers
• Induction Ceremony: Grand welcome event for freshers
• Department Fests: Each school has its own technical fest (CodeStorm for CSE, etc.)

These events happen throughout the year and are the highlights of campus life. Many clubs recruit additional volunteers during fest season.

• NSS (National Service Scheme): Community service, blood donation drives, cleanliness campaigns
• Red Cross Society: First aid training, health camps
• Environmental Club: Tree plantation, sustainability initiatives
• Entrepreneurship Cell: Startup guidance, pitch competitions, mentorship programs

NSS participation earns additional credits and looks excellent on applications for higher studies and government jobs.

• Time management: Club activities are usually in evenings (4-7 PM) — plan study time around them
• Priority during exams: Most clubs pause activities 2 weeks before exams — use that buffer
• Learn to say no: If a club demands too much time in first year, step back temporarily
• Use clubs for learning: A coding club workshop on Git is more valuable than a random YouTube tutorial — it counts as productive time
• Network: Seniors in clubs become mentors for placements, projects, and career advice
